Natural Temporary Body Adornment
The ancient art form of using henna to adorn and embellish the body with attractive designs is a time honoured tradition which dates back centuries.
Henna is made by using the crushed leaves of the henna plant (Lawsonia Inermis) and mixing it with other natural ingredients to create a paste that will stain the skin when applied. A special custom used for thousands of years in many Eastern cultures, henna is believed to bring all things positive to the wearer: love, luck, good fortune, prosperity, good health and happiness. Often applied on women by women, it has been traditionally used to mark and celebrate a special time in a women’s life and is considered a blessing or a gift. A true celebration of women, elevating their beauty in a pure and natural way.
Henna body art is becoming increasingly popular in many other countries and cultures as more people appreciate this appealing art form. Each henna artist brings their own unique style to their work and designs, therefore it is fascinating to see this wonderful tradition evolve as it is shared and appreciated around the world. I am one of the premier henna professionals in Cornwall, introducing Sublime Henna to Truro, Cornwall in 2013. Having trained in henna design in the USA in 2004, as well as with one of the top henna artists in the UK, I bring the beauty of henna body art to Cornwall in a safe and professional way.
* Always make sure that you have henna applied by a professionally trained and insured henna artist, for your safety.
Sublime Henna only uses natural and organic henna to make the perfect paste for creating designs.
How to Book a Henna Appointment
All Sublime Henna designs are applied free hand. The time it takes to create the design will very much depend on how large or small, simple or intricate you would like your design to be, therefore appointment options are based on design and time. I have given some ideas and examples of what can be accomplished during different time slots. Henna can be applied on many parts of the body but most popular are hands, feet, arms, legs, back and abdomen. I also work with people affected by cancer therefore can apply henna designs over mastectomy scars as well as henna crowns on the head for those with alopecia due to side effects of chemotherapy or other conditions. A design book is available to view with varying sizes and ideas for possible henna designs to choose from.
For best colour results have your henna applied 2-3 days before your special day or event.

Henna Questions and Answers
Q.What is black henna?
A.Please, never use anything called black henna on your skin. It is not real henna at all…genuine natural and organic henna is never black! Instead it contains a chemical that can cause terrible allergic reactions, chemical burns and scarring. This nasty ingredient in black henna is called PPD (Para-phenylenediamine) and should be avoided at all cost for your safety and protection. It is toxic, a strong sensitiser, especially on children or younger skin, and a known carcinogen (can cause cancer). A PPD reaction usually starts around 3-10 days after application.
Avoid using any henna that contains any chemicals whatsoever and always check the ingredient listing to find out exactly what is in it. Remember, truly natural and organic henna needs to be stored in a refrigerator or freezer because it does not contain any chemicals or preservatives, so if you are buying henna cones to use on yourself from a shop, off the shelf, over the counter, online etc. chances are that it might contain chemicals. Look for a trained and qualified henna professional for the safest application and results.
Q.How long does henna last?
A.The finished henna design will last anywhere from 7 days to 2 weeks or longer. The strongest and peak colour will be day 2 and day 3 after application and then the henna will gradually fade away after that. Generally it will vary from person to person and can depend on several different factors: how long the henna paste is left on the skin to stain; how good or bad is the aftercare and homecare; how quickly does the skin exfoliate; is the skin moisturisd and protected sufficiently etc.
Q.Does it hurt?
A. No. Applying henna does not hurt at all, in fact it can be very relaxing and meditative when applied.
